Loving and Learning in Fellowship and Faith

(1 John 4:7-12; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Our vision, for all in our school community, is centred in the mutual relationship of love and fellowship, love leading to fellowship and fellowship in return enhancing our understanding of love. We ground our thinking about love in 1 John 4.7-12 which asks us to ‘love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God’. So we work to develop loving and caring relationships within the school community, supported by a framework of belief which affirms that all love originates in God.

We believe that encouraging and guiding the growth of emerging vibrant beliefs will lead to a thirst for further learning and enable development of pupils’ spirituality through their relationship with God, others, oneself and the natural world. Then, taking 2 Timothy 3.16-17 as a foundation we seek to build an understanding throughout the school that learning can lead to a lively faith which is keen to explore God’s bond with our world: ‘All scripture is inspired by God and can be used for teaching… for guiding our lives and teaching us goodness’.

In daily practice this means we work with the children and our community in order that all can flourish. We endeavour to develop considerate, well-rounded pupils who embody our School values of Love and Compassion and Friendship in their relationships with others. We encourage our children to be inquisitive and to develop a love of learning through our value of Wisdom. Through our behaviour guidance and our understanding of the messages of Jesus we develop, in our children and community, hope and aspiration for the future as well as an understanding that we can start every day afresh. Developed through our close relationship with the church, our SMSC curriculum along with British values we encourage our value of Respect and Reverence - showing this for all faiths and cultures, enjoying and celebrating our similarities and differences, and the things that make us unique.
